Agatowa loop. DOT23
Route details
Short characteristics
It is a medium-length loop in a hilly terrain and 450m of elevation gain must be added to 32km of its length. The route leads on various roads: from mostly small-traffic asphalt roads, through forest gravel tracks to rather easy field dirt roads. The route is decently marked but not updated. Once you have passed Szczechowice, beware of an awaiting surprise in the form of a stretched electric shepherd (as of 2019). We made a correction of the trail to avoid this section. All in all the route is very pleasant: quiet towns and nice views are its shortest characteristics. The leitmotif of the landscape is the Ostrzyca Proboszczowska Mountain (called the Polish Mount Fuji), perfectly visible for about 1/3 of the route.
Agates in Lubiechowa
The quarry on the outskirts of this village is perhaps one of the most famous places for mineral seekers. There are various kinds of chalcedony, including the agates, amethysts and calcites. You can also find other interesting minerals such as: barite and pyrite. The quarry is about 300m from the route. A bit further in the village, for a short stretch, this route coincides with the Walon Loop. Follwing the blue trail, you can significantly extend the trip.
Swierzawa
It is probably the best ‘natural’ starting point. In the town, you must visit the church of St. John the Baptist and St. Catherine of Alexandria. It is a perfectly preserved Romanesque building which can be seen as a sensation when it comes to preserved painting and stonework details. Inside the church you can see very unusual 13th-century paintings.
Kaczawa singletracks
The route can be diversified by a diversion to the Kaczawa Singletracks in Gozdno. There are two tracks there of a total length of 14.5km. They can be considered as suitable for everyone provided the bike is good and the brakes are in a perfect condition. There is an observation tower next to the trails.
