Short characteristics

It is a classic MTB loop with all the characteristic elements. There are difficult steep climbs by loose screes and stony roads, sharp descents and spectacular traverses on a steep slope. The loop is demanding but it includes numerous attractions and it is scenic. We highly recommend it but it is harder than it looks on the label. The description goes clockwise and we recommend following it on your bike.

Section 1: Gluszyca – Skalna Brama (Rock Gate) (south).

It is a very intimate exit from the town along the Zlota Woda river. It is followed by some asphalt roads and an exhausting steep climb by a stone road in the forest. The next stretch is flat followed by a downhill stretch by the village of Grzmiaca. Then, you ride a difficult forest stretch which is steep led on loose and possibly filled with water eroded paths. Above, you can see meadows and beautiful views. It is a very impressive entrance to the Rock Gate and it is worth stopping there to visit the view point north of the Gate and the ruins of an old castle near the Rogowiec mountain, where you can also enjoy excellent landscapes.

Rock Gates (Skalne Bramy)

It is a passage between two impressive spires. They were formed by the breaking of an original hard extrusive formation piercing softer rocks. Already in the 19th century it was a popular tourist destination.

The Rogowiec Mountain

There is about 300m to the top of this mountain if you can make a loop. It is a great vantage point over the Kamienne, Walbrzyskie and Sowie Mountains. At the top, there are the ruins of the highest situated castle in Poland. It is worth reading the fascinating history of this once large landmark.

Section 2: Skalna Brama – Gluszyca (North)

This is what we love the most when cycling in mountains. It starts with a spectacular narrow ledge on a steep slope. Then there are crazy descents in the forest. Be careful when navigating there! These are followed by the beautiful views and meadows along the Grzmiaca River. You close the loop by continuing the descent to Lomnica and you return to Gluszyca by the same dirt road as at the beginning.
