Route details

Short characteristics

This loop is led mostly on asphalt roads. It is 165km long to which you must add a symbolic kilometre of elevation. The track is well marked, flat and even, which makes it suitable for fast riding. It seems to be the best for a road or gravel bike. Unfortunately, the dirt sections in the north of the loop on both sides of  the village of Gatka are a problem. In the dry season, they are very sandy and cycling even on 1.4″ tyres will be troublesome. Together, it is nearly 6 arduous kilometres. There is no time to stop. We would, therefore, suggest using the railway stations: Siedlec Trzebnicki and Zmigrod/Gatki to divide the route into sections. We describe the track assuming the start in Garbce and the end in Siedlec Trzebnicki as it divides the route into two practically equal sections.

Garbce (alternatively Zmigrod) – Siedlec Trzebnicki (west side)

This one is probably the easier part of the loop. It is 86km long plus 3km to get from the station. The first place worth exploring is the park and palace complex in Zmigrod. A beautifully maintained park with a pond with an island for rent, plus bridges, gazebos as well as recreational areas and piers are worth an occasional round. Even more interesting is the permanently secured palace ruin begging for a photo session. Next to it, you can see a historic tower and inside it there are a Tourist Information Centre, hotel rooms and an observation deck. A bit past Zmigrod, you pass the Experimental Track of the Railway Institute in Weglewo, one of only eight such places in the world. Then, after a longer, peaceful field-forest ride led on smooth asphalt roads, you reach Uraz. The port there is a must see. We recommend trying fish soup and smoked fish as well as seeing other attractions of the place. You return to the asphalt road passing the station in Szewce up to Strzeszow, where you enter an exceptionally long fragment of a perfectly straight dirt road. To complete this section of the loop, you cycle through a forest in Malin landing at the railway station.

Garbce-Siedlec Trzebnicki (east side)

You quickly reach the long sandy fragment mentioned at the beginning. Later the track gets definitely easier, however time will rush and attractions will be plenty. Beautiful views start in Grabowka, then you can visit the famous 8 Fish Inn, Trzesniowka ponds, a pleasant forest road (dirt but hard), Rudy pond and the Jamnik (Dachshund) complex. And a bit further on, you reach the intimate Sieczkowski Pond after a bumpy dirt road ride. At that point you leave the Milicz Ponds behind and it is time to step harder and catch up with the kilometres. It is a pleasant ride south mainly on paved roads of various standards, from smooth asphalt to heavily worn ones and sections on concrete slabs. Once you have passed Skarszyn you mostly cycle on dirt roads ending up at the train station.
