Around Stołowe Mountains (PL and CZ). DOT158
Route details
Short characteristics
It is an extensive international loop around the Stolowe Mountains National Park. The route runs entirely on asphalt roads: in the Czech Republic (approx. 65 km) in excellent condition, in Poland (approx. 67 km),unfortunately, there are damaged sections. You cross the border four times. The ride is quite calm MTB, slopes rarely exceed 10%, on the Czech side it is a little less steep. The total elevation gain of 1850 m indicates that this is an offer for experienced cyclists and for a light unsprung bike.
On the west side, you mostly ride through the picturesque, sometimes steep and deep, valleys of the Stolowe Mountains. There are less extensive panoramas here. The east part, led across
the Scinawka Depression, is definitely more scenic, although it is relatively far from the mountains. Riding clockwise with the starting point in Polanica-Zdroj seems to be optimal. Marking of the trail: on the Polish side there are classic blue plates, on the Czech side, according to the local system, follow the number 4020.
Polanica-Zdroj – Kudowa-Zdroj
The steep valleys and slopes on the section Kulin Klodzki – Golaczow – Danczow are probably the most spectacular there. And, of course, there is the stunning panorama opening before the downhill stretch to Kudowa Zdroj.
Kudowa-Zdroj – Tlumaczow
It is the Czech side with a small Polish detour near Mieroszow. The track begins and finishes on dedicated cycling paths built on the border. Then, you cross Adrspach and the famous
Skalne Mesto (Rock Town). You should reserve 2-3 hours for this attraction. Another must- see is the beautiful Baroque Broumov which you pass on route. Nearby you can, after a prior telephone reservation, arrange a tour of the local brewery which produces a wide range of delicious beers.
Tlumaczow – Polanica-Zdroj
On your ride here you can even catch a glimpse of the Suche Mountains. The section from Gajow through Radkow to Nowy Swiat gives you probably the best insight into the way the Stolowe Mountains evolved. From very close you can see that these mountains are indeed unique and ‘different from other ones’. You have there a perfect view of, among others, Broumov Walls, the Szczeliniec Wielki mountain and Radkow Rocks. The iconic town of Wambierzyce makes a quiet, except for the vicinity of Chocieszow, closure of the loop.
