Wrocław, Route No. 3 AROUND MURALS, DOT292
Route details
A route full of artistic attractions. It runs through Nadodrze and Ołbin housing estates known for that you do not have to enter a gallery to have contact with art here. Take your friends and family to discover Wrocław’s murals together! There will be a dozen or so of them on the route. Each of them is worth stopping at to admire it and learn its history. Many murals are hidden in backyards – you have to be vigilant not to miss any!
The route starts in Łokietka Street, at the “Gate to Nadodrze” [Brama do Nadodrza] mural. It follows the bike path in the road towards św. Macieja Square. Behind the square, the route turns left into Paulińska Street, and then, at the intersection with Rydygiera Street – it turns right, leading to the “Heart of Nadodrze” mural. Then we reach Jagiellończyka Street to admire Escif’s minimalist mural there. As we continue along Niemcewicza Street, we reach Ołbińska Street with a mural depicting a young woman. We head towards Jedności Narodowej Street, then turn into Roosevelta Street to see beautiful murals in the so-called “colourful backyards” (don’t miss anything: there are murals on both sides of the street!). We return to the intersection with Jedności Narodowej Street. We continue along Oleśnicka Street and then Żeromskiego Street where, in a backyard, there are another three murals. The route takes us along Daszyńskiego Street, from which we turn into Jedności Narodowej Street that leads to Poniatowskiego Street, where we enter Kilińskiego Street that leads us to Anny German roundabout. At the roundabout, we turn right into Jedności Narodowej Street to see a backyard mural with the inscription: “Neighbour! Lend me a glass of sugar” [Sąsiedzie! Pożycz szklankę cukru]. Riding along Jedności Narodowej Street towards the Oder, we will reach another street work of art – a mural dedicated to Marek Krajewski. Another three murals can be found in Pomorska, Strażnicza and Cybulskiego Streets.
This route is only a small portion of what Wrocław has to offer as far as murals are concerned. Keep exploring!
The route is easy, well-marked and accessible to everyone. It runs mainly through downtown streets with calm traffic, most of which do not have separate cycling infrastructure. Watch out for other road users and remember to follow the “right hand” rule!
