Route details

This time, rather exceptionally, we present our ‘original’ loop developed, however, on the basis of the marked trails. The reason for it is prosaic: in the area of Milicz Ponds there is a complete lack of classic bicycle loops up to 50km. There is a wide selection of short routes of up to 10km good for a trip with small children. There are also long, linear trails which do not really fit into the current model of tourism, as well as extensive loops only slightly passing our area. In addition, all this which is described in the materials for cyclists misses too many interesting places. Therefore, for those more advanced, we have prepared two unique proposals (DOT60 and DOT61) filling the gap to some extent.

Short characteristics

It is a great 38km loop leading across fields and through forests in a less frequented and less-known area. The northern part is quite remote and the paths are sometimes overgrown. You can  see historic weirs on the Barycz and Czarna Woda rivers and you pass nearly 20 ponds in 4 picturesque groups. There are two excellent restaurant and hotel facilities along the way. It is the route for those who will not be discouraged by a bit of cycling in tall grass. That is why, I suggest choosing a spring date or put on long trousers or leg wear. As a starting point for this description, I take Ruda Milicka (Gadkowice, Joachimowka, Henrykowice would be equally good). You can also start at the railway station in Wierzchowice. More than half of the route will follow the blue archaeological trail signs, a significant part will also be Mozdzanow-Jutrosin black bicycle trail. The rest leads on smooth asphalt roads.

From Stawno to Potasznia

At the beginning, there is a spectacular levee between the ponds (DOT55), then a longer forest and field overgrown and very intimate stretch followed by the paths on the embankments along the river. Looking at the aquatic vegetation, you can see with you own eyes that Barycz is a very clean watercourse – class II and in many respects even class I.

Potasznia ponds

They stretch from Gadkowice to Wielgie Milickie. It is a beautiful section running across three smaller breeding complexes. There is a Hunting Castle in Gadkowice as you pass the first pond. This is a good place for a longer stop known to cyclists and canoeists. Then, right after, you cross the forgotten weir across the Czarna Woda river. It is a magical place. The forest pond of Sarni is another wonder and soon you cross another historic weir followed by the levee of the largest Potasznia complex. After such sensations, the rest of the route seems like a quiet access road. Before the end, you can have a meal at the ‘W Starym Mlynie’ restaurant in Niesulowice.
